We’re on a mission to change the way the world builds software and digital products for the better.
In 2006, UserVoice CEO Richard White spent his days working on a calendaring product and obsessing about understanding his customers.
He wanted to know how to improve the product in a meaningful way for customers, but the countless hours he invested combing through forum threads, blog comments, and emails provided him little actionable insight. He knew he couldn’t possibly be the only product owner struggling to gather meaningful feedback from customers. So he set out to develop a solution to help companies better connect with and understand customers. Two years later, UserVoice was born.
Customers today expect companies to not just listen to their feedback, but to truly value it and use it to drive positive change. Product teams are tasked with the critical job of understanding customer pain and pinpointing its true cause to build the perfect solution. They sit at the center of all stakeholders – translating customer needs to internal teams, guiding engineering, and driving product strategy to achieve company goals.
Product management has always been more art than science, and we’re here to change that by transforming how companies gather and analyze product feedback. We automate the collection and management of product feedback and enrich it with quantitative customer data. By bringing science to the art of listening, we’re helping product managers prioritize feature requests to drive strategic product decisions.
Win Together; Fail Learn Together
We have shared goals — we drive toward success and celebrate our wins together. On the flip side, no one is an island and we won’t tolerate failure as individuals or individual teams. We all pitch in if something is off-track, regardless of our role or team.
Strong Opinions Held Loosely
Asking questions and testing others’ hypotheses only serves to strengthen them. A strong team knows when to change its opinion when presented with new data.
It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint
We optimize for a sustainable work pace. That doesn’t mean we don’t sprint / crunch when the situation requires it, but we don’t do that all the time.
Do the Right Thing (Even if No One is Looking)
We create a culture where everyone is accountable. We’re expected to evaluate what the right thing is and to do that thing, even when no one is looking or specific instructions haven’t been given.
Don’t Beat Around the Bush
We embrace getting straight to the point. It saves time and helps us produce better outcomes. It’s never personal, but it is often direct and perhaps uncomfortably honest. No politics.
Optimize For Outcomes Over Activity
We measure ourselves by the outcomes we create, not by the amount of work that goes into them. Results not tasks.
Build a Legacy
We’re here to build something that we can be proud of; something that will change the way the world works and will stand the test of time. We love hearing people say “We use UserVoice and love it”, and we optimize for making that happen more and more.
Frugal Not Cheap
Cheap is pennywise but pound foolish. We want to avoid that mindset at all costs. At the same time, money is the lifeblood of any business. It enables us to hire great people, invest in our team and product, and we don’t exist without it — thus we conserve it whenever possible.
Nothing is Immutable
We don’t do things just because “that’s the way we’ve always done it”. We’re willing to revisit any past decision when confronted with new data or market realities.
Perfect is the Enemy of Done
AKA get shit done. Time is our most valuable resource and perfection takes too much of it. The window of opportunity is always closing; if we don’t do it, someone else will.
Don’t Take Ourselves Too Seriously
This is hard work. A little irreverence goes a long way to lightening the load.
People Are Better For Having Worked With Us
Customers are better for having worked with us. Employees are better for having worked with us. We encourage growth and success in anyone we work with.
